Android 2.3.2 Gingerbread on Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)
Up to this article is written, Android 2.3 Gingerbread is still not available for Samsung Galaxy S (and also many other android phone too), but, if you want to test it, you can flash a custom AOSP rom using Android 2.3.2 Gingerbread by CyanogenMod. (CM7).
The CM7 ( the number 7 is for Gingerbread , while 6 is Froyo) for Galaxy S is still in development stage, with bugs and some issues but the performance is perfect. It has a very fast and smooth interface, and BEST battery performance ever than any other custom rom for Galaxy S. The current usage(measure in mA) in standy mod is just around 1-4mA.
To know more about CM7 for Galaxy S, you can visit the official Cyanogen web here.

Android .. 7 Facts that you should know
Android operating system is the latest fad to hit the mobile phone market in global. Almost every mobile company worth its name is aggressively marketing this technology to the consumers. Lots of amazing features, a cute logo and a geeky name, it has definitely captured the imagination of the masses!
First up, a little history:
Android is not the brainchild of Google Period
It was devised way back in 2003 by Andy Rubin and Rich Miner, who later sold it to Google in 2005 for $50 million. Google put the concept in cold storage until 2007 when it announced plans to launch the Android mobile platform. Today Rubin is the director of mobile platforms and Miner the group manager, both at Google.
Open Source? Come Again!
The Android operating system consists of 12 million lines of code including 3 million lines of XML, 2.8 million lines of C, 2.1 million lines of Java, and 1.75 million lines of C++. There is a common misconception that Android is an open source technology. In reality, however, Google hasn’t released the complete source code of Android, and it never will, which is going against the open source licensing terms.
Multi-Tasking King…
While the iPhone can only run one app at a time the Android is a proper multi-tasking mobile OS that can run multiple apps like the Google Maps, media player, and browser at the same time without any hiccups. Seems like the iPhone has some catching up to do, at least in one department.
Pastry Updates…yummy!!
The updates for Android are named after Pastries. The past releases were named as Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread and the soon to be announced Honeycomb. Doesn’t matter what their version numbers are but the names definitely make a difference.
Android Stats…Mindboggling!
As of January 2011 there are more than 172k paid and free applications for Android waiting to be downloaded by over 30% of the total smart phones sold across the world. The Android OS has grown to the No.3 position globally as per Gartner.
Google’s Business Plan..How the hell do they make money??
You must be wondering how Google benefits from keeping the Android platform open source especially when it doesn’t take a dime from the application distributed through the online Android Market, well nor does Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballamer! He recently joked about the Android strategy by saying,”I don’t really understand their strategy. Maybe somebody else does.” Yeah, that’s absolutely right Ballmer, no wonder Microsoft is having a tough time understanding how windows phones’ market share is falling each day and the Android’s growing by the hour.
The secret behind the LOGO!
We all are in love with the Android logo, but here’s a shocker: The Android Logo is not originally designed but lifted off an old game from Atari systems. It would appear that the logo was based on a character in the 1990 game “Gauntlet: The Third Encounter.” The game however, was never really a huge hit but the Android business is and so is the logo.
Please do share anything for android in the comment ya.
